Every sales person makes mistakes, but to be a successful sales professional you have to avoid following common mistakes -

1. If you are in sales then it is necessary for you to be talkative salesman, but over talking can ruin your sales career, and if you want to get success in sales, then you have to develop listening skill. Today most of the customers complain that the sales people do not understand their exact needs, hence if you want to understand your customer's needs accurately then you have to listen them very carefully.

2. Lack of preparation is another major mistake done by sales people. You should get whole knowledge of product, market and competitors. 

3. Sometimes not asking right questions can be a great mistake. Many sales people do not ask or hesitate to ask relevant questions for closing the sales.

4. Not answering or being unable to answer customer's question is a major mistake and should be avoided. If you have good product and market knowledge, then you can easily satisfy the customer by giving the right answer.

5. Although enthusiasm is the key to success in the sales, but you should avoid over aggressiveness because generally customers do not tend to buy products from over aggressive sales people.

6. Many salesmen think about only short-term results, but sales is a long-term profession and repeat sale play a major role in the success of any business.

7. A sales person should be updated in accordance with new technology. Today technology is changing very fast and many sales people are unable to keep pace with rapidly changing technology.

8. Every sales is closed by a decision maker and identifying of the decision maker is an important task in sales. Not identifying the decision maker is a common mistake done by many salesmen.

9. Not greeting or not greeting rightly is a major mistake in sales. For example, if any customer comes in your shop or showroom, then you should greet him politely within thirty seconds because first impression is the last impression.

10. Most customers complain about poor service hence every sales person should make long lasting relations with customers by giving them good after sale service.
